The DIFFA/Chicago chapter distributes funds to Chicago area AIDS service agencies who assist individuals affected by AIDS and HIV-related illnesses. DIFFA/Chicago’s Excellence in Care Awards granting program has awarded over $2.5 million dollars since 1987. On February 22nd at the DIFFA/Chicago Excellence in Care Grants Presentation held in the Chase Auditorium, DIFFA/Chicago announced its 24 grant recipients for 2011.

The Harrington College of Design was proud to not only help sponsor the event, but also to lend student and faculty volunteers to aid in DIFFA’s fund-raising efforts. Present at the event were members of Harrington’s faculty and staff, including Dr. John Martin-Rutherford, who serves on the board of DIFFA/Chicago, Lucy Trimarco, Lilly Rios and Suzanne Regenold who participated in the Grants Committee efforts, Steve Fuchs and several Masters students as well as undergraduates and alumni who volunteered at the event.

“I am very proud that [Harrington College of Design] is at the front lines with this very important organization.  One day I hope this organization will be unnecessary but until then we are determined to participate and support DIFFA’s activities in the best manner we can,” said Dr. John Martin-Rutherford

Thanks to all who helped!

A little over a week ago, we held a Winter Showcase at the Harrington College of Design for those interested in our college and for our current students.

Bringing together all three fields: Photography, Interior Design and Communication Design, 11 participants collaborated together in an exciting workshop to create an interior vignette, capture it on film, and then craft it into a magazine cover.

Check out the final product below:

Special thanks to Harrington instructors Demetra Vartzikos, Lucy Trimarco, Jaclyn Jacunski and Ron Gould for leading the great workshop!

Lucy Trimarco has been painting walls, re-finishing and re-arranging furniture since she was 10 years old. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts, majoring in Interior Design, from The International Academy of Design & Technology, Chicago, then continued studies at The Art Institute of Chicago and The University of Chicago in business, graphic and web development.

Lucy started her interiors career at VOA Associates, and then moved onto OWP&P, Partners by Design and The Environments Group. Lucy has also consulted at Perkins & Will, Lieber Group, TKA Partners and McCann Associates among others.  She has developed interiors for commercial offices, showrooms, schools and retail spaces.  Her most recent projects are Herman Miller Showrooms in New York and Atlanta, which have LEED Gold Certification.

In 2001, Lucy became a Registered Interior Designer and started her small business, luc.ID, Inc., which led her down a road of interiors, web design and product development consulting for furniture manufacturers, corporate clients and retail stores.

Lucy started her teaching career at The International Academy of Design & Technology and then joined Harrington College of Design in 1998 when she was asked to teach a 3D_AutoCAD Class.  Recently, she became a full-time instructor and will be teaching technology classes within the graduate and undergraduate departments.  Her focus is inspiring students to use software as a visual tool (starting from paper) to sell future designs to their clients.

Her spare time is spent volunteering for the United Cerebral Palsy – Toyland which raises money to purchase toys for disadvantaged children in the Chicago-land area.  She has also helped transform the interior of the Jane Adams Home on Taylor for their first open house for the National Public Housing Museum. Lucy’s affiliations include NCIDQ, LEED AP ID+C, and IDEC.
