Hold onto summer for as long as possible, but also get excited for fall (which is personally my favorite season. 🙂  Harrington Interior Design alumna, Lisa Natale, shares some great advice for your outdoor space below…

It’s time to spruce up your outdoor space, so it can be used to its fullest potential. With many fun outdoor events approaching I thought I would share some tips on how to get your outdoor space spruced up for all your parties!
A great way to spice up your terra cotta containers is to simply paint them. Add stripes, a bright color, or a fun usable surface like chalkboard paint will add some interest and spice to otherwise a boring container.

Summer is a great time to use pops of COLOR when entertaining outside. Add vibrant colors to the table with your china, floral arrangements, or linens. Have fun and keep it simple when setting your table!

Don’t forget to set the mood! Origami lanterns and Italian light bulbs add just the right amount of light and interests to an outdoor space. Also, you can create a beautiful glow and ambiance to your party by adding a bunch of battery operated candles. These candles will last a hundred times longer and will never get blown out by accident.

Pay attention to the details…add moss or rocks to the base of the plant to add texture and color.

Finally, don’t get overwhelmed with your window boxes by adding flowers that need to be taken care of daily. Low maintenance plants are the best way to go and will look great!

Entertaining? Registering? Or just love china as much as I do? Dressing a table to make it look like a celebration fit for a king is difficult to do. A few tips on how to create a magnificent table…

  • Stay simple! Use a simple white dinnerware with having the linens and centerpiece as the splash of color or pattern punch the table needs.
  • Don’t forget about the centerpiece…get creative with this! Use flowers, baskets, or glassware to create a beautiful and inexpensive centerpiece.
  • Select a theme and follow through. If its your birthday do an “Over the Hill” theme but instead of using creepy decorations replace them with black and white striped dinnerware! Be Creative!
  • Do a little research and look for a great and creative way to make the guest feel special. By giving an unexpected surprise like a flower in the teacup or glassware will make your guest feel special the minute they sit down.
  • Make your party an experience and by paying attention to the details will give the guests that wonderful king like experience.

The most popular and awaited wedding of the century finally arrived and if you had to describe this moment in one word… STUNNING!!!!! The entire event was unforgettable and magical that I must admit I became slightly obsessed with making sure I soaked in everything I could about this spectacular wedding. Although, I guess I was not alone with a whopping two billion viewers tuning in to watch Kate and William tie the knot! Incredible!

With all of the British mania going around I had to showcase ways on how you too could incorporate the playful yet sophisticated British style into your home.

Wallpaper from a great British company, Osborne & Little. This company is known to have graphic, bold, and vibrant wallpapers that if used right in the space can create a sophisticated yet playful environment. Pictures above are from Osborne & Little and LNM Interiors.

Modern interpretation of the classic English wing Chair from British Designer Julian Chichester.

How great would these look in a library with coffered ceilings and wood paneling…or in a lounge at your local pub? Fabrics are a great way to bring in a witty motif into your space. Both furniture pieces above are by Halos.

I love this artwork from Left Bank Art. Great way to express yourself is through art and why not subtly let your guest know who really is the Queen bee!

Do you feel lately the only “expert trick” you’ve been reading in design magazines or blogs is to paint, paint, and paint some more?  Who has the time let alone the patience to paint their whole home when a change is needed.  Well, here’s a tip that will help in an inexpensive way to re-fresh your space…Changing out your light fixtures!

Maybe your current fixtures are dated or just don’t go with your personal design style.  Changing out your fixtures will not only be stress free, but it’ll also make your place look like a million bucks.  Another benefit is your home will run more efficiently just by a simple fix like updating your fixture. Thumbs up to that!  Changing to a halogen fixture or even setting your fixture to a dimmer will definitely help reduce the energy use in your home.

One great way to shop for light fixtures is to flip through a magazine or two.  Find fixtures that you L.O.V.E., that will look great in your space, and make sure to pay attention to the size of the fixture.  Take these “to die for” images to your local lighting store and try to find similar fixtures that will work in your price range.  This is a great way to know what you want even before you walk into a showroom.  Check out some of my “TO DIE FOR” fixtures and hopefully it will inspire you! Happy Shopping…

Don’t forget about sconces!!  Great way to give your wall some personality and it’ll also accentuate your wall or hallway with light.

This feature is continued from yesterday…

When Lisa Natale started her Interior Design business, LNM INTERIORS, she was confident in her design approach. “I strongly believe that the interior of any home is a reflection of a person’s personality. I’m the type of designer that loves tapping in to the client’s personal style and helping them to express that in their home.  Whether their style is bright and bold or subtle and sophisticated, I love helping them explore their dreams,” Lisa said.

In addition to its typical Interior Design services, LNM INTERIORS offers a unique service derived from Natale’s background. While studying at Harrington, Natale worked part-time in Bloomingdales in their wedding registry department. Her experience there led her to put together a special package designed especially for newly-weds: an interior design consultation that brides and grooms can register for. During the consultation, LNM works with new couples to develop the perfect dining or living room to entertain in and help launch their new beginning together!

In addition to her business, Lisa Natale stays active in the industry: she recently earned the prestigious National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ), a certification that demonstrates competence in a wide variety of aspects that affect the safety of the interior environment and knowledge of the industry’s standards and expectations of an Interior Designer. She is also active on various social media sites and runs her own blog that features Interior Design insight at Http://blog.cocorating.com – tomorrow I’ll feature an post written by Lisa.

Congrats to Lisa for launching your own business! Stay in touch with everyone at Harrington – we hope to hear from you again soon!

Lisa Natale, an Interior Designer in the Chicago-land area and Alumna from the Harrington College of Design, started her own residential Interior Design firm in early 2010, LNM INTERIORS. Named for the three main qualities that Lisa Natalie and her firm strongly live by: Live, Natural, Modern; LNM INTERIORS brings a fresh and unique perspective to Interior Design.

Lisa shared, “I have always had a love for design and have been profoundly inspired by the fashion industry. This passion has influenced my designs and allows me to add touches of the latest fashion trends into my interior designs. There is nothing more exciting than to see a strong bold graphic print on a beautiful garment on the runway. It immediately gets me thinking of a million different ways to use the pattern as the starting point for a room. Although interiors are sometimes harder to change as frequently as ones wardrobe, I try to give my clients the vision to change or add accessories through the years.”
